How to play
The idea
Every day Compass of the Day picks one country — the same for every player in the world. Your goal is to guess it in five attempts or fewer. A new country appears exactly at midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
Hints
At first you see a single hint — the hardest one. Each wrong guess unlocks the next. Hints go from hard to easy: 1) population and area, 2) location, 3) neighbouring countries, 4) culture and food, 5) the first letter of the capital.
The compass: distance and direction
After every wrong guess you see the distance from the country you named to the secret country (between their centres) and an arrow showing the direction. For example, “France · 5,400 km ↘” means the answer lies far to the south-east of France. Use it to narrow down your search.
Bonus questions
Once the daily game is over you can answer two bonus questions about the country: find its flag and pick its capital. They don’t affect your streak, but they show up in your shared result.
Entering a guess
Start typing and a list of countries appears. Capital letters and accents don't matter. Alternative names are accepted: “Czechia” or “Czech Republic”, “Netherlands” or “Holland”, “Türkiye” or “Turkey”. A name that isn't on the list doesn't cost you an attempt.
Statistics and streaks
Your results are stored only in your browser. A streak is the number of days in a row you've won: skip a day or lose and it starts again. The chart shows which guess you usually solve the puzzle on.
Tips
Use the first hint to judge the scale: tens of millions of people and millions of square kilometres narrow things down a lot. Don't guess at random — every miss gives you new information, so pick a country that tests your idea about the region. The neighbours hint usually decides the game.
Share your result
After the game, tap “Share” to copy a spoiler-free grid of coloured squares. Your friends will see on which guess you got it — but not the answer.
